Andrew J. Murphy

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Andrew J. Murphy of Hopkinsville, Ky., formerly of Shawneetown, passed away on May 23, 2009, at his home of natural causes.

Visitation was at the funeral home in Hopkinsville and graveside services were held in Sturgis, KY., with the Rev. Ron Johnson officiating.

Andrew or "Murph" as some called him, was born on May 3, 1936, in the vicinity of Junction.

He was the son of the late John Andrew and Ethel (Ramsey) Murphy.

The family moved to Shawneetown, where Andrew attended grade school and high school.

He had worked at the Kentucky New Era for eight years as one of the last four linotype operators and had also worked at the Sturgis News.

He was retired from the Government Printing Office in Washington D.C., after 29 years of service as a printer. He was a member of the Columbia Typographical Union and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He was a member of the Moose Lodge.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Murphy was preceded in death by three brothers, Dale, Marshall and Ivan; and one sister, Maggie Lou Gibbs.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Mary Jones Murphy of Hopkinsville, Ky.; one son, Troy Murphy of Midland, Va.; one daughter, Mrs. Berk (Debbie) Settler of Marshall, Va.; one sister, Mrs. George (Eva) Vickery of Shawneetown; and one grandson, Brian Settler of Marshall, Va.

Andrew will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
