Marisa Ferguson named DHS Girls Senior Athlete of the Year for 2015
On Tuesday night, Du Quoin High School announced golfer and softball player Marisa Ferguson as their 2015 Outstanding Senior Athlete at the 3rd Annual Elks' Du Quoin High School Girls All Sports Banquet.
Ferguson was an all-conference selection in softball during her junior season in 2014, and currently is the number one pitcher for the Lady Indians this spring. She is also an accomplished golfer, finishing 27th at the IHSA Class A State Finals this past October.
The Outstanding Senior Athlete Award includes a $1,000 scholarship.
The Kris Stacey Academic Award, given to the senior athlete who in addition to earning varsity letters excelled in the classroom, went to Abby Doerr (cheerleading). The Kris Stacey Scholarship Award, honoring the spirit of Kris Stacey, her beliefs, values, qualities of character, enthusiasm, desire and standards of conduct, went to Hope Fenton (volleyball, track, Indianettes).
Other seniors honored for their years of dedication to extracurricular activities at DHS included Shiann Adams (cheerleading), Kayle Armstrong (cheerleading), Amanda Atteberry (volleyball, softball), Victoria Cavitt (Indianettes), Allie Fred (cheerleading), Samantha Gross (cheerleading), Shia Holmes (track), Brooklyn Miller (cross country), Whitney Pierce (cheerleading) and Amber Williams (softball).
The guest speaker for the banquet was SIU tennis player Korey Love, a 23-year-old Florida native who amassed various awards including 2012 & 2014 MVC Conference Doubles Championships.
