</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Evelyn Elaine Adams, 80, of 241 W. Logan Ave., Shawneetown, passed away surrounded by her family at 5:12 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind.

She was born Aug. 14, 1929, in the Grayson community in Saline County, the daughter of Lyle Edward and Mattie Sue (Dailey) Thompson Sr. Evelyn married George William "Bill" Adams on June 3, 1950.

She was retired from the Illinois Department of Public Aid and a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Shawneetown. She is survived by her husband, Bill Adams of Shawneetown; two daughters, Susie and Benny Crane of Shawneetown and Marsha Meiners and Steve Coriasco of Marion; two sons, Kevin and Carol Adams of Purcellville, Va. and Jeff and Rhonda Adams of Shawneetown; four brothers, Monte and Mary Thompson of Ridgway, Harold and Marlene Thompson of Fountain, Colo., Ted and Margit Thompson of Elk Grove Village and Donald and Judy Thompson of Marion; 11 grandchildren, Matt, Amy, Klay, Katie, Deana, Callie, Lindsay, Jackie, Sean, Garrett and Wyatt; and three great-grandchildren, Tyler, Zoe and Zac.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; sister, LaVernne Murphy; and two brothers, Lyle E. Thompson Jr. and Ronald L. Thompson.

Visitation for Evelyn will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, 2009, at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009, with the Rev. Jerry Williams officiating. Burial will be at the Elmwood Cemetery near Equality.
