Prep Hoops: Hobbs shines in All-Star game
Kelsey Hobbs shined in Sunday's Tri-State All-Star game at Wabash Valley College.
The annual event is reserved for seniors. Hobbs is a junior.
Hobbs didn't show her age, but she certainly made her presence known as she played with four Wabash recruits, including Daisy Edmison from Sesser-Valier.
Hobbs finished with seven points, on 3-of-7 shooting from the field and went 1-of-3 from beyond the arc. The Bulldog forward had six steals, four rebounds and three assists.
Benton's Cali Carney, played with an Olney Community College and Lincoln Trail recruit, along with a Butler signee and scored six points for the opposition.
The Butler recruit was Tori Schickel, who is ranked the No. 17 center at 6-foot-2.
Schickel and Hobbs got pretty acquainted in the first half when Hobbs drilled a 3-point to give the Team Red their first lead of the game. Hobbs followed that with a steal and on her pull-up jumper attempt, Schickel blocked Hobbs attempt and sent the ball back to half court.
"Kelsey played very well considering nine other kids on the floor had already signed to play college basketball," Jake Stewart said. "The coach from Wabash even came up after the game and is very interested in her. Being the youngest kid there I thought she played very well."
