SOFTBALL: EHS rallies for comeback win at Johnston City

Elverado pulled off an amazing comeback at Johnston City on Wednesday, scoring eight times in the top of the seventh inning to erase a six-run deficit on their way to a 10-8 road win. All nine starters had hits as the Lady Falcons stunned the Lady Indians on their home field.

Down 8-2, the big rally started with a single by Baylie McClanahan and a two-run homer from Paige Newfarmer. Britani Prescott and Brooke Whittington both followed with singles and Tori Ehlers trimmed the deficit to 8-5 with an RBI double.

Still with nobody out, Kaitlin Lively doubled in a pair to make it a one-run game in front of a game-tying triple by Maycee Bowlin. Sierra Albright knocked in Bowlin on a fielder's choice, then scored on McClanahan's second base hit of the inning to complete the miraculous comeback.

"Everybody contributed in this game one way or another," said EHS head softball coach Donette Wheatley. "We were down 8-2 going into the seventh and just had a heck of an inning. Paige cranked a home run after Baylie led off with a single and then the hits just kept on coming."

"We had some errors but the kids kept their heads in the game, and wow, what a comeback. I don't know when the last time it was that we beat Johnston City."

Prescott pitched around a walk in the bottom of the seventh to secure the victory. She worked the final four and two-thirds innings of the game, allowing four earned runs on five hits and two walks with a pair of strikeouts. Whittington starter and lasted two and a third, giving up one earned run on three hits and a walk, fanning two.

McClanahan (2-5, R, RBI, Newfarmer (3-5, R, 2 RBI, HR), Prescott (2-5, R, RBI), Whittington (2-4, R), Ehlers (2-4, R, RBI, 2B), Lively (2-4, 2 R, 2 RBI, 2 2B), Bowlin (1-3, R, RBI, 3B, BB), Cheyenne Abbadusky (2-2, R) and Kadie Dunmyer (1-3, SAC) racked up the seventeen hits for the Lady Falcons.

Elverado (6-6, 4-0) is scheduled for a road game at Dongola on Thursday before hosting Crab Orchard on Friday.
