SOFTBALL: Elverado slams Shawnee, 16-3
Elverado hitters were all over Shawnee pitching on Tuesday, as the Lady Falcons hammered out seventeen hits in their 16-3, six-inning short-game win over the Lady Reds to improve to 4-0 in conference play.
Paige Newfarmer finished a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate and five different Lady Falcons had at least two hits.
"We are hitting the ball very well right now," said EHS head coach Donette Wheatley. "Paige had a monster game at the plate, as did Britani (Prescott), Baylie (McClanahan), Brooke (Whittington) and Tori (Ehlers). As long as we keep hitting the ball the way we have been, we'll be alright."
The game was tied up at 2-2 in the top of the third when Elverado broke it open with five runs. Newfarmer (single), Prescott (double), Whittington (single) and Kaitlin Lively (two-run single) all had RBIs in the inning.
The Lady Falcons kept tacking on throughout the game, scoring one run in both the fourth and fifth innings before plating six in the sixth.
Prescott got the win on the pitching rubber, allowing three earned runs on seven hits with ten strikeouts.
"Britani threw very well," Wheatley said. "She had a little trouble in the second inning when it was raining, but other than that, she did a good job."
McClanahan (2-3, 4 R, 3B, BB), Newfarmer (5-5, 4 R, 4 RBI, 2 2B), Prescott (3-5, R, 3 RBI, 3 2B), Whittington (2-4, R, 2 RBI, HBP), Ehlers (2-4, 2 R, BB), Lively (1-4, R, 2 RBI), Cheyenne Abbadusky (1-5, R, 2 RBI) and Kadie Dunmyer (1-4, 2 RBI) had hits for the Lady Falcons.
Elverado (5-6, 4-0) is at Johnston City on Wednesday and at Dongola on Thursday. They'll host Crab Orchard on Friday.
