Scrabble Tournament returns Saturday
The annual Scrabble Tournament benefiting Habitat for Humanity of Saline County will be held Saturday at Morello's Restaurant and Catering in Harrisburg.
Twelve teams are on the list and ready to contend for the top team honors.
"This is our ninth tournament and it seems the teams get more competitive each year and the scores are closer at the end of the evening than they were when we first started," said HFHSC Board Member Bruce Boone. "It is always a fun evening and it looks like this year will be as well."
The tournament consists of three 20-minute rounds where teams of six have all the tiles at their disposal to score as many points as they can.
The evening's musical entertainment will be The Old School Band. They are a favorite band all around southeastern Illinois. There will be silent auction items, live auction items, and a host of other items as door prizes and such. Great pizza and appetizers to eat will be available throughout the evening provided by Morello's Restaurant and Catering.
The doors open at 6 p.m. and the first round of playing begins at 7 p.m. The evening will conclude at 10 p.m. after the live auction and various winners are announced. Admission at the door is $10.
"We are ready to build our next home and we are currently looking for a family to partner with HFHSC in that effort," said Boone. "It is important for us to have fund raising efforts such as this as they are our only means of raising money for new homes and events like this remind people in Saline County they do have an affiliate for Habitat for Humanity and we are trying as best we can to make affordable, decent housing available for our community."
