Chester High School Prom to take place Saturday
CHESTER - The theme for this year's Chester High School Prom is "Arabian Nights" and activities have been announced pertaining to Prom Week.
The CHS Junior Class of 2016 is hosting Prom and students and sponsors have been busy preparing for the big event.
Junior Class sponsors are Linda Sward, CHS Spanish teacher and Erin Belton, Physical Education teacher. Under the direction of Sward and Belton, students have been organizing the dance and related activities for quite some time.
King and Queen candidates are senior students, while Prince and Princess candidates are junior students. CHS nominates five King and five Queen Candidates and three Prince and three Princess Candidates. The total makes up the Prom Court.
The 2015 Prom Court was nominated April 16 by a vote of the junior and senior classes and the court was announced Friday.
King Candidates are Justin Bert, Liam Canady, Hunter Howie, Drake Middendorf and Issiac Wingerter. Queen candidates are seniors Sarah Liefer, Kara Mehrer, McKenzi Rucker, Megan Stewart and Mallory Westerman.
Prince candidates are Jordan Berner, Noah Franklin and Jason Schwartz. Princess candidates are Alyse Bollman, Anna Cole and Jaclyn Colvis. The entire student body will elect the 2015 Prom King, Queen, Prince and Princess by popular vote this week.
Prom is scheduled to take place Saturday and will be held in Colbert Gymnasium on Rocky Bridges' Court. Associated with Prom is Promenade. This popular activity started several years ago and continues today.
Promenade is an activity which allows Prom participants to parade from the CHS cafeteria, down the stairs to the gym floor and across the decorated gym to a viewing area. Once at the viewing area, participants stop briefly while they are introduced.
Promenade begins at 7 p.m. and typically lasts approximately 30 to 45 minutes depending upon the number of students who choose to participate. The public is invited to attend this event.
The announcement and coronation of the 2015 Prom King, Queen, Prince and Princess begins immediately following the conclusion of Promenade. The official coronation will be conducted by retiring 2014 Prom King, Nick Gross, and his retiring 2014 Prom Queen, Maribeth Lawrence.
Tickets for Prom are now on sale during lunch hours at CHS for $15 each. Members of the Prom Court are invited to attend the activities free of charge.
A new aspect of Prom this year will be a "student-run" music system, in contrast to having a professional D.J. During lunch periods throughout Prom Week, students can purchase the opportunity to select musical selections which will then be considered and either approved or rejected by CHS Administration.
A final playlist will then be created for the actual evening of Prom. For more information about Prom or any related activities, please call the Chester High School office at 618-826-2302.
