Prep Baseball: Harrisburg can't hang on at Benton

Harrisburg moved to .500 on the year with a 4-2 loss at Benton Tuesday.

The Bulldogs (10-10 overall, 2-3 in SIRR Ohio) scored two runs in the first inning as Britton Riden scored Matthew Phipps, who led the inning off with a double and Sykes Thompson scored on a ground ball error by Bryce Emery, but that was about as much damage as the 'Dogs could do.

Phipps went 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of doubles and Aaron Johnson finished 2-for-3, while Riden, Thompson and Emery all had one hit.

Phipps got the start on the mound, going 4 1/3 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits, while walking two and striking out one.

Carson Batts came on in relief and went 1 2/3 innings, allowing one run on two hits.

Harrisburg is set to play at Carmi-White County today (Wednesday) and will host Murphysboro Friday and close out the week by playing host to Du Quoin in a double header Saturday, starting at 11 a.m.

Carmi-White County 11, Eldorado 1

Stanton Hathaway had the lone RBI for Eldorado in an 11-1 loss against Carmi-White County Tuesday.

That one run came on 11 hits by the Eagles against the Bulldogs as Eldorado stranded 11 total, including the bases loaded in the first, third and fourth inning and were unable to convert.

Drew Woolcott (2-for-4), Adam Collier (2-for-4), Hathaway (2-for-3) and Josh Pilkington (2-for-3) all had multiple hit games for the Eagles, while Kale Oglesby, Jayden Sigler and Richard Graceffa all had one hit.

Gallatin County 17, Galatia 4

Hunter Walters hit a thee-run home run in the third inning, helping Gallatin County to a 17-4 Greater Egyptian Conference win over Galatia Tuesday.

Walters picked up the win on the bump, going five innings, striking out two , while allowing three earned runs.

At the plate, Walters went 4-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored. Patrick Clark finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a pair of runs driven in, while Lucas Hise went 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored.

Nathan Shults and Aaron Walters both had multiple hit games as Walters had one RBI and one run scored, while Shults scored two runs and drove in a run.

Thomas York and Kory Hise each had one hit for the Hawks, who improved to 8-6 overall.

Gallatin County 3, Elverado 2

After allowing two runs to Elverado in the first inning, Patrick Clark settled in to lead Gallatin County to a 3-2 win over the Falcons Monday night.

Clark went the distance, striking out eight in picking up the win.

Thomas York paced the Hawks at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI, while Kory Hise, Nathan Shults, Josh Smith and Aaron Walters all had a hit. Hise finished with two RBI, while Smith and Walters each scored a run.
