Obituary: Madeline 'Sue' (Mathieu) Arnold
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Madeline "Sue" Arnold of Mount Vernon, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011, at Trinity Mother of Francis hospital in Tyler, Texas.
Madeline was born Oct. 18, 1932, in Eldorado to August Joseph Mathieu and Effie May Upchurch. She married Winston "Pete" Alton Arnold on Jan. 3, 1954, in Eldorado. Pete was career U.S. Air Force. Over the course of his career, they lived in Texas, Kansas, Illinois, Colorado, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, and Arkansas, as well as The Philippines and France.
Madeline loved to spend time with her family, traveling, fishing and reading, she especially liked reading her Bible.
Madeline was valedictorian of her class in 1950 at Eldorado High School.
She was preceded in death by her parents, August and Effie Mathieu; three brothers, Francis Joseph (Joe), Edward Nolen (Ed) and Charles (Charlie) Carlton Mathieu, who died in May of this year. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Dorothy May Mathieu, Betty Lou Mathieu and Ruth Mathieu Dorman Brooks.
Madeline is survived by her husband, Winston Alton (Pete) Arnold and her four sons, James W. Arnold (Juanita), Mt. Vernon, Vincent R. Arnold, Mt. Vernon, Terry L. Arnold (Terry), Federal Way, Wash., Joseph A. Arnold, Longview; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Jewel Baldwin, Wilma Shelton and June Bean.
Madeline was laid to rest on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011 at Mount Vernon City Cemetery. Pall bearers were James Arnold, Dylan Arnold, Jason Arnold, Matthew Arnold, Kevin Anderson and Chris Carrol.
