Prep Baseball: Harrisburg, Carrier Mills fall on diamond
Mt. Vernon broke a 1-all tie with three runs in the top of the seventh inning to knock off Harrisburg 4-1 Wednesday at Doris Heights.
Carson Batts suffered the tough-luck loss, going seven strong innings. Batts (3-2) allowed four runs (two earned) on six hits, while striking out two and walking one.
Harrisburg tied the score at one in the fifth when Britton Riden scored Matthew Phipps.
Riden was one of four other Bulldogs (8-9) who had a hit on the day, joining Sykes Thompson, Noah Vallette, Aaron Johnson and Phipps.
Harrisburg is scheduled to return to action Friday at home against West Frankfort at 4:30 p.m. The Bulldogs are slated to travel to Marion Saturday for a noon affair with the Wildcats.
Vienna 5, Carrier Mills-Stonefort 3
The Wildcats had six hits on the day as Loren Whiting went 3-for-4 as Carrier Mills-Stonefort fell to Vienna 5-3 Wednesday.
Dylan Schwartz, Darren Betz and Anthony Kalodner all had home runs for the Wildcats, who drop to 6-3 overall on the season.
Whiting took the loss on the mound, falling to 2-2 on the year, going five innings. Whiting allowed four runs on seven hits, while walking two.
Betz worked one inning of relief, allowing one run on one hit.
Kalodner got CMSF on the board early in the first inning with a solo home run and Betz gave the Wildcats a 3-0 lead on a two-run dinger.
Vienna rallied for four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and tacked on another run in the sixth inning.
Carrier Mills-Stonefort is scheduled to travel to Galatia today (Thursday), slated for a 4:30 p.m. start.
