John Robert 'Bob' Black

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[John Robert "Bob" Black of Cedar Run, N.J., passed away at the age of 80 on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008.

Bob was born June 14, 1928, in Junction to James Isaac and Nigel (Frohock) Black. He was raised in the Eagle Creek area in Gallatin County and in 1944 his family moved to Alton. He was a graduate of Wood River High School and Shurtleff College. Bob served in the Army on board a Navy Transport bringing the troops home after World War II.

He started working at Olin Industries (Western) in East Alton while still in high school and continued after college. In 1955 he was transferred to Baltimore, Md., where he met his future wife Ruth. They were married in 1957 and their children Dennis Lee Black and Linda Black Weber were born in Baltimore, Md. Bob and Ruth moved several times during their marriage, a result of job transfer and retirement.

They both enjoyed the great outdoor life with gardening, motorcycling, sailing and at one time circled Manhattan Island in a 17-foot canoe. He is a past president of The New Jersey District Exchange Club and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Tuckerton.

Bob leaves his beloved wife of 51 years Ruth (Badman) Black; son, Dennis Lee Black; grandson, Daniel Black; Daniel's mother, Bonnie Black; daughter, Linda Black Weber and husband Carl Weber; two grandsons, Connor Aubrey and Aaron Skye Weber; and his beloved Yorkie, Half Pint.

Visitation for Bob will be at Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown, from noon until service time at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009. Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Jerry Williams with burial at Elmwood Cemetery near Equality.
