School sales tax passes

A countywide referendum on a new 1% sales tax that would help fund school building maintenance and repairs was approved by voters 1,924 to 1,804 (51.61% to 48.38%).

Those monies will be collected across the county and prorated to school districts based on student enrollment.

Businesses will have to start charging the higher sales tax in July with the first distribution in October.
