Three-Car Acccident on South Washington St.
Du Quoin police, the fire department and Pinckneyville Ambulance Service were quick to respond to this three-car accident at the the intersection of Rt. 51 South and Grant Way near Mc Donald's Restaurant at 3 p.m. Monday.
Chief of Police Jamie Ellermeyer said a car driven by Casey Vortriede was northbound on Rt. 51, went through the red light and struck a westbound car driven by Marsha Seibert, who had a green light. The Vortriede vehicle bounced off the Seibert vehicle and crossed lanes into the path of a dark blue SUV driven by Alex Thompson who was properly stopped at the light headed south on Rt. 51. The Seibert vehicle wound up in the northbound lane of Rt. 51 north of the Title Max office.
Seibert and two grandchildren were taken to Marshall Browning Hospital. Vortriede was taken to Marshall Browning Hospital and later transferred to St. Lois University Medical Center for possible surgery on Tuesday. All vehicles received major damage.
