Hazel Grace (Hedden) Bakehouse
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Hazel Grace (Hedden) Bakehouse, 92, a former Pope and Massac County resident, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008, at the Carrier Mills Nursing Home surrounded by her family.
Hazel was born in the Temple Hill community in rural Pope County on Dec. 27, 1915, to Loyd and Anna (Russell) Hedden. She married Fred Bakehouse, also of Temple Hill, on June 2, 1946. She and her husband resided in Temple Hill where they owned and operated a grocery store. In 1984, she moved to Brookport, where she resided next door to her daughter, Pat Robinson and son-in-law Milburn.
Hazel was a graduate of Metropolis High School class of 1934 and a graduate of Southern Illinois Normal College. She was a fifth grade teacher for 10 years at Clark School in Metropolis and then a third grade teacher at Unity School until her retirement in 1980. Hazel was an avid genealogist. She was a devoted Christian and attended the Bay Valley Methodist Church and Power's United Methodist Church. Later, while in the care of her two daughters, Hazel attended the Carrier Mills First United Methodist Church and St. Stephen's Lutheran Church. She was a loving mother and grandmother, a caring friend and wonderful person.
Her parents, her husband, an infant sister, and her son, Paul Bakehouse of Phoenix, Ariz., preceded Hazel in death.
Two daughters survive Hazel, Pat Robinson and husband Milburn of Brookport, Pam Brown and husband Bill of Carrier Mills, and a daughter-in-law, Janice Bakehouse of Phoenix, Ariz. Seven grandchildren; Paula Burry and husband David of Hamilton, Mont.; Priscilla Reddin and husband Larry, Bill Bakehouse, and Patti Hiatt and husband Sam all of Phoenix, Ariz.; Lisa Penrod and husband Patrick of Metropolis; Stacey Sandusky and husband Bill of Carrier Mills; Lori Stephens and husband Joe of Paducah, Ky.; and Larry Robinson and wife Brandi of Temple Hill. She also had 14 great-grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, 2008, at the Miller Funeral Home in Metropolis. A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, at Miller Funeral Home in Metropolis with burial following at the Temple Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Joey Dunning and the Rev. Tom Emmerson will officiate.

Cody Sandusky, pianist, and Bill Brown, soloist will provide the music for the service. Pallbearers will be Adam Penrod, Cody Sandusky, Bill Sandusky, Larry Robinson, Joe Stephens, and Patrick Penrod.
