Art Institute's exhibit extended through February

The exhibition, "Auspicious Vision: Edward Wales Root and American Modernism," at Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute Museum of Art has been extended, and now will remain on view through Sunday, Feb. 24.

A one-hour documentary of the same name will be televised at 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29 on WCNY.

The exhibition's popularity prompted the museum to extend the show, according to Paul D. Schweizer, the museum's director and chief curator. The exhibition was originally scheduled to close at the end of this month.

"We want people to see at first-hand the pictures that are featured in the documentary," he said. "We have extended the show to accommodate everyone," Schweizer said.

Root (1884-1956) was a pioneering collector of modern American art. He was also one of the Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute's greatest benefactors.

Few exhibitions in the Museum's history equal the size, ambition, and institutional significance of this show and its accompanying scholarly catalog.
