Two champions for Seneca in CJ?Tourney

The Seneca Indians placed fourth as a team in Saturday's Carl Junction Classic wrestling tournament.

The Indians finished with 135 ½ points and finished just points behind third-place Odessa, which finished with 137 ½ points. Carthage took the team title with 188 points, while Monett was second with 170 points.

Seneca had two champions on the day with senior Nathan Enyart and freshman Colbey Skaggs claiming first.

Skaggs (125 pounds) went 3-0 in pool play and in bracket wrestling, defeating Lebanon's Tyler Zimmerman and then winning by decision over Monett's Michael Merritt for the championship.

Enyart (152) opened with a victory over Brad Summerfelt of Pittsburg, Kan., and ended with a victory over him in the championship match. He won four matches on the day, including three by pins.

Michael Fyock (189) placed second for Seneca, going 4-1 on the day. Fyock was undefeated in pool play and then defeated Eric Miller from Lebanon to advance to the finals. There, however, he fell to Carthage's Austen Heidlage by a pin.

Josh Mullin (145) placed third for Seneca. Mullin picked up wins over wrestlers from Odessa and Lebanon to finish 2-1 in pool play. He defeated Monett's Kyle Meyer by decision, before falling to Carl Junction's Caleb Dye in the third-place match.

Nathan Fortner (119), Jake Williams (145) and Tyler Elbert (285) all placed fourth for the Indians. Fortner, a returning state qualifier as a freshman, went 2-0 in pool play but had to injury default the rest of his matches. Coach Jeff Sill noted that he was taken to the emergency room on Saturday with an unspecified injury.

The Indians are idle until Friday, when the team travels to Harrisonville for a two-day tournament.
