Taste Of Southern Illinois appeals to five senses
The annual Taste of Southern Illinois was a treat for all five senses and it was all for charity.
Coordinator Michael Tison said the event, priced at $30 per ticket, met its financial goal before they opened the door at the Bonan Business Center Sunday at 5 p.m. Thursday,
"We do not like to talk dollar amounts, but, yes, we met our goal," he said while arranging things at the ticket table.
No wonder. The food, the drink, the company - they all contributed to a great experience.
And word is getting around the region. Restaurants from Mt. Vernon to Marion are participating and our local eateries and vendors are making a great showing.
Newer entries included Emily's Cathouse from Marion and Rare Steakhouse from Mt. Vernon. 17th Street Bar and Grill, Alto Vineyards, Johnson's Southern Barbeque, Koerner Distributor, Inc., Kokopelli, Mackie's Pizza, Marion Red Lobster, Panera Bread, Peking Place, Pepsi MidAmerica, Rare Chophouse, Tequilas Mexican Restaurant, The Chocolate Factory, Pheasant Hollow Winery, the Flame Grill and Wooded Hills Bar and Grill.
The charities aided by this year's fundraiser are Hospice of Southern Illinois, Lighthouse Shelter, Mentors 4 Kids, Fowler Bonan Foundation's Clothes For Kids Drive and the Boy Scouts.
A treat for the senses, yes, but also the heart.
