Prep Hoops: Amaya named to AP Honorable Mention Team
Bahari Amaya capped off his illustrious prep career by being named Honorable Mention on the Associated Press Class 2A All-State Basketball Team.
Amaya, a 6-foot-5 senior shooting guard who has signed with Division II Illinois-Springfield, led the Bulldogs in scoring at 23 points per game. He finished with 1,272 career points that ranks him seventh on the all-time scoring list and he shot 58 percent from the field for a Bulldog ballclub that went 18-11 this season, falling in the regional finale to Fairfield.
Nashville's Royce Newman, a 6-foot-7 junior center was named to the 2nd Team.
Joining Amaya on the Honorable Mention list was Carterville's Will Galik and Mt. Carmel's Levi Laws.
In Class 1A, Okawville's Noah Frederking was named to the first team and Meridian's David Davis was named to the second team.
Being named to the Honorable Mention list was Sesser-Valier's Nick Marlo, Woodlawn's Ross Owens and Meridian's Davarae Edmonds.
