Obituary: Larry Leo Reed

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Larry Leo Reed, 76, of Harrisburg, passed away 4:45 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011, at his residence.

He was born July 11, 1935, in Harrisburg, the only son to Leo and Nell Duncan Reed. He married Wilma L. Stallings on June 19, 1955, in New Haven.

Larry graduated from Harrisburg High School and went on to graduate from Southern Illinois University with a bachelor&#39;s degree in education.

He was a retired teacher, having taught in Harrisburg for 34 years at Bayliss School, McKinley School and Malan Jr. High School. He was ordained as a deacon in 1960 at McKinley Avenue Baptist Church and served as a deacon at Dorrisville Baptist Church where he was also a member from 1984 to present. Larry served in church work for over 50 years as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, Sunday School director, Training Union director, Royal Ambassadors Leader, Choir member, Upwards Basketball coach, FAITH Evangelizm team and Vacation Bible School craft leader. He worked in children's camp for the Saline Baptist Association for many years and went on mission trips to Wyoming and Virginia. Larry was a heart transplant recipient in 1992.

Surviving are his wife, Wilma; one son, Steve (Peggy) Reed; and one daughter, Trena (David) Nave, all of Harrisburg; six grandchildren, Stevi (David) Smith, Micah Nave, Gretchen Reed, Victoria Reed, Corey (Jamie) Parkinson and Shane (Mary) Parkinson; eight great-grandchildren, Nichole Smith, Venice Reed, Adaline Stannard and Tyler, Daizha, Nathan, Triston and Peyton Parkinson.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2011, at the Dorrisville Baptist Church with the Rev. Dewayne Taylor and the Rev. David Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Garden Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011, at the Dorrisville Baptist Church. The J. M.
