Old Shawneetown house fire a total loss

Shawneetown and Old Shawneetown firefighters fought an early morning blaze Sunday at 924 N. Poplar St., Old Shawneetown, but the house was a total loss.

The call came at 5:30 a.m.

"When we left new Shawneetown we saw a red glow," Shawneetown Fire Chief Terry Golden said.

The house belonged to Shawn Oldham and family who were out of the state at the time.

Shawneetown Police Department also assisted.

"We saved a dog in a dog box at the front of the house. We saved a dog and a garage out back," Golden said.

Golden said Shawneetown had a response time of 8 minutes and were on the scene until 8:30 a.m. with two pumper trucks, two tanker trucks and 15 men.

The cause of the fire is undetermined, Golden said.
