Obituary: Mike Petty

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Mike Petty, 68 , of West Frankfort, formerly of Eldorado, died Monday, Aug. 8, 2011, in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

He was born Jan. 8, 1943, in Shawneetown to Landis and the late Mary (Barger) Rister. On Sept. 22, 1965, he married the former Dorris Gibbs and she survives in West Frankfort. Mike worked as a supervisor at the Amex coal company in Keensburg, and he was a Navy veteran.

He was a member of the Star General Baptist Church and the College Heights Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Eldorado American Legion, a member of the Johnston City Masonic Lodge, and formerly a member of the Eldorado and Mt. Carmel lodges. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner and a member of the Ainad Temple.

Other survivors include his father, Landis Rister of Eldorado; a daughter, Kelley (John Adam) Edwards of West Frankfort; a son, Jody Parker; and three grandchildren, Victoria Petty, Charity Petty and Cheyenne Petty. Also surviving are one brother, Don Petty of Eldorado; and three sisters, Judy Poole, Landa Rister and Sandy Gwaltney, all of Eldorado.

Mike was preceded in death by a son, Micheal Petty; and a grandson, Logan Dale Parker.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 14, 2011, at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado with the Rev. Russell Helton officiating. Burial will be in Wolf Creek Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday Aug. 13, 2011, at the funeral home with a Masonic service being said at 7 p.m.
