Obituary: Johnette J. Funk

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Johnette J. Funk, 55, a resident of rural Cypress, passed away at 6:53 a.m. Monday, July 18, 2011, at her home.

She was born in Harrisburg on July 4, 1956, the daughter of James A. "Jim" and Betty (Cowsert) Deaton.

Johnette was a graduate of Carrier Mills-Stonefort High School and the practical nurse program at Southeastern Illinois College in Harrisburg. Her working career was at Harrisburg Medical Center for eight years and at the Shawnee Correctional Center at Vienna for the past 22 years. She retired Dec. 31, 2009.

Johnette was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church near Cypress. She was a member of the I.B.E.W. union, and had assisted in coordination at Shawnee Correctional Center.

Johnette is survived by her mother, Betty Deaton; her husband of 36 years, Terence James "Terry" Funk; her son and daughter-in-law, Terence Anthony "Tony" and Ronda Funk; her daughter and son-in-law, Jacqueline Gayle "Jacquie" and Richie Oliver; three grandchildren, Christian Samuel Funk, Richie Wayne Oliver and Haylie Lynne Oliver; her sister and brother-in-law, Valeria Kay and Rick Mitchell; sister-in-law, Carla Deaton; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Johnette was preceded in death by her father, James A. Deaton; a grandson, Colton Isaiah Funk-Naese; a brother, Joey Deaton; maternal grandparents, John W. and Nell M. Cowsert; paternal grandparents, Charles W. and Lilly B. Deaton; and two aunts, Carolynn Sue Hill and Phyllis Hawkins.

Johnette enjoyed being with her family, husband, children, nieces, nephews,and cousins. She also enjoyed church, when she was able to go. She especially enjoyed singing and being with her church family and many other friends.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, July 21, 2011, at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Burial will be in the Cypress Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at the funeral home.
