Obituary: Ghislaine (Gernez) Sipes
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Ghislaine (Gernez) Sipes, 92, formerly of West Frankfort, passed away July 6, 2011 in Harvest, Ala. She was born on Aug. 12, 1918, in Paris, France to George and Suzanne (Lacouer) Gernez. She was married to Elmer Charles Sipes in 1938. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
She is survived by three children, Philippe (Pat) Sipes and wife, Carmen of Benton, Josianne Rioux of Harvest, Ala. and Janine Mitchell of Toney, Ala.; five grandchildren, Teri Ann Conaway (Sipes), Tony Sipes, Doug Rioux, David Mitchell and Angela Mitchell; four stepgrandchildren, six great-grandchildren and seven great-stepgrandchildren.
Ghislaine enjoyed painting for family and friends and won many blue ribbons for her art exhibits. She also enjoyed sewing for family and friends and was an avid gardener.
For the last six and a half years she lived with daughters, Janine Mitchell and Josianne Rioux in Alabama; prior to that she lived in West Frankfort where she was doted on by her son, Pat.
Ghislaine, "Me' Mee'," will be greatly missed by all those that knew and loved her.
It was Ghislaine's wish to be cremated. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois in her name.
