OBITUARY: Larry E. Bishop
Larry E. Bishop, age 77 of Shawneetown, died on Tuesday, March 3, 2015, in Deaconess Hospital, Evansville, Ind.
Larry was born on Sept. 2, 1937, in Harco to the late Vollie Bishop Sr., and Mary Ann (Griffiths) Bishop Bennett. Larry served his country honorably in the United States Navy for 18 Years and 10 months before retiring as Chief Petty Officer, E7. While in the Navy he was an air traffic controller and was on the USS Forrestal. After coming out of the Navy he then started working for the United States Postal Service and retired after 20 years of employment. Larry was married to Lela (Allen) Bishop who preceded him in death in January of this year. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Shawneetown and the American Legion. Larry loved to hunt and fish but really loved to be on the Ohio River near Cave-In-Rock with his family and friends. He was an avid Cubs fan and loved his four dogs. He loved his family and had a special bond of love with his mother. Larry was a good father, husband, brother, grandfather, son and friend and will be missed by many.
Larry is survived by three sons, Aaron Bishop of Florida, Brett Bishop of Carmi and Bryan (Barbie) Dietz of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; one daughter, Lari Anne Bishop and Alex Head of Texas; and a daughter-in-law, Rita Bishop of Ohio; one sister, Johnita (Jim) Moore of Equality; and a sister-in-law, Susie Bishop of Olney; eight grandchildren, Cori, Aaron, Harper, Giddon, Rachel, Kyle, Brittany and Brooke; and one great-grandchild, Chloe.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Chris Bishop; two brothers, Paul "Skipper" Bishop and Vollie Bishop Jr.; a grandson, Ryan; and his stepfather, John Bennett.
Visitation for Larry will be 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, March 6, 2015, at the Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway and his funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2015, at the funeral home. The Rev. Larry Lewis and the Rev. Jack Hall will officiate and interment will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery in Equality with military rites.
