Du Quoin Middle School Band Members See Success at Contest

On Saturday, Feb. 28, Du Quoin Middle School band students participated in the Illinois Grade School Music Association's (IGSMA) solo and ensemble contest. Hundreds of students from all over Southern Illinois participated in the music contest. Twenty-three band students represented Du Quoin Middle School. Students began preparing for the contest in December. Their hard work and practice paid off on Saturday. Overall the students took home three second division ratings, 16 first division ratings and five first superior ratings. Students who earned a second rating were Christian Feltmeyer and Chance Genesio (percussion), and Zach Lilly (saxophone). Students earning a first rating were Will Rea (piano and bells), Hailee Gaines and Matt Hill (flutes) Lindsey Gossman and Katie Indorante (clarinet) Sophie Davis (bass clarinet) Bobbi Hamlin, Garrick Blevins and Garett Juhl (sax) Haley Williams (baritone sax), Mason Wood (tenor sax), Payton Wood (trumpet) Madison Worthington (baritone) and Riley Vancil and Reese Rodely (percussion). Students who earned a first superior rating were Anna Carter and Shelby Harris (flutes) Trevor Eubanks and Madison Dorsey (trumpets) and Guy Indorante (trombone). Congratulations to all the students who participated! The Marching Warriors next performance is this Saturday, March 21. The band will be competing at the IGSMA organizational full band contest held at Carbondale Middle School.
