James Alfred 'Buck' Rice
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[James Alfred "Buck" Rice, 84, Harrisburg, passed away at 8:40 p.m. Saturday, May 28, 2011, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
He was born on March 15, 1927, in Liberty to the late Murrell and Alice (Stearns) Rice. On July 16, 1960, he married Alyce Rutherford, and she preceded him in death on Dec. 12, 1988.
He was a retired railroad labor relations manager. He was a World War II veteran serving in the Army and was a 1944 graduate of Harrisburg High School and an avid golfer.
Surviving family members include his sons, Mark and David, both of California; two sisters, Mary Jean (Jim) Woolard of Harrisburg and Reita (Don) Bradshaw of Grantsburg; a brother, Clarence (Joann) Rice of Harrisburg; a brother-in-law, Richard Harper of Harrisburg; a granddaughter, Lisa Rutherford of San Rafael, Calif.; a grandson, Ian Rutherford of San Rafael, Calif.; a dear friend, Doris Oliver of Harrisburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two brothers, Harry and Garret Rice; and three sisters, Minnie Rice, Nellie Cantrell and her husband Wayne Cantrell and Murlene Harper.
Graveside memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 4, 2011, at Ledford Cemetery. Kenny Byron will officiate. Those attending are asked to gather at the cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ledford Cemetery. Envelopes will be available at the cemetery.
