Important meeting for parents of Du Quoin 8th grade students Thursday at high school
The guidance department at the Du Quoin High School is hosting an important meeting this Thursday, March 5 at 6:30 p.m. for 8th grade parents of students entering the Du Quoin High School
The guidance counselors will be make a presentation to parents and 8th graders to explain how registration works at the high school. The intent is to help 8th graders make a smooth transition to high school. The counselors will discuss scheduling, required courses, and selection of elective courses for DHS. Other topics will be university recommendations for college-bound high school students, NCAA requirements, and the Honors Program at DHS. Students and parents will receive a DHS Course Description Guide, a copy of a schedule, report card, and transcript. Students will also receive a Career Pathway handout which suggests available DHS courses to enhance a student's chosen career pathway. A handout for State University Requirement for Illinois colleges will be distributed.
Counselors will be with the 8th graders on Wednesday, March 18 to sign up for courses for the next year. Most courses for freshmen are required; however, there are a few elective courses students will be able to select. Counselors ask that students pick courses they want to take plus a few alternative choices in case their first choices aren't available.
Several teachers will be available to talk about their courses or organizations.
If the parent and the 8th grade student are unable to attend the Information Session on March 5, you may stop by the high school guidance office after March 5 and pick up copies of all the materials.
