Charles 'Charlie' C. Mathieu
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Charles "Charlie" C. Mathieu, 84, of Evansville, Ind., passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at VNA Charlier Hospice Center. He was born on December 24, 1926, in Eldorado to August and Effie Mathieu.
He graduated from Eldorado High School in 1944 and was also a graduate of Southern Illinois University. Charlie was a teacher for EVSC for many years.
He taught math and science at Bosse High School and was an assistant coach for football and track. He served as the assistant principal at North High School and then retired as the department head of math and science at Central High School in 1989.
Charlie was a 50-year member and past president of Phi Delta Kappa, served as president of ETA, and was involved with I.S.T.A., Kiwanis, and Constructors for Christ.
He was a World War II Navy veteran. Charlie was a member of Washington Avenue Baptist Church for 52 years. He served as Sunday School superintendent, choir member, Joy Group president, and was involved with the special education class.
Charlie enjoyed fishing, hunting, football, traveling and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph "Joe" and Edward Mathieu; and sister, Ruth Brooks.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 64 years, Peggy; daughters, Angie Kleban (Terry) of Crown Point, Ind., Vicki Small (Steve) of Evansville, Ind., and Mitzi Mathieu of Evansville, Ind.; grandchildren, Kate Scheu, Jennifer Bodinet, Michelle Cox and Kelli Bailey; great-grandchildren, Brandon Russell, Brady Bodinet, Aaron Cox and Ryker Bodinet; sisters, Jewell Baldwin (Harell) of Raleigh, Wilma Shelton of Galatia, Madeline Sue Arnold (Pete) of Mt. Vernon, Texas, and June Bean (Jerry) of Lakeland, Fla.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 16, 2011, at Alexander North Chapel in Evansville, Ind., officiated by his nephew Bob Dorman with burial at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Alexander North Chapel.
