L. Ray Kent
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[L. Ray Kent, 78, of Beloit, Wis., passed away peacefully, Friday, Dec. 10, 2010, in his home.
He was born Aug. 31, 1932, in Saline County, the son of Elmus and Madge Cardwell Kent. Ray was a 1951 graduate of Galatia High School. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving during the Korean conflict. Ray married Mary Kay Engels on Aug. 24, 1957, in Embury Methodist Church, Freeport. She predeceased him on May 8, 2003.
Ray was formerly employed by Freeport Lincoln Mercury in the late '50s and early '60s and in 1964 he joined Bryden Motors in Beloit, Wis., as their service manager for the next 15 years. He retired from Bryden's as a sales rep in 1997 after 30-plus years of service. Ray was a member of Daystar Christian Fellowship, South Beloit.
Survivors include his two sons, Michael (Jan) Kent of Greencastle, Pa. and Douglas (Janet) Kent of Beloit, Wis.; three grandchildren, Susan (Brad) Monninger of Greencastle, Pa. and Abigail Kent and Andrew Kent both of Beloit, Wis.; two great-grandchildren, Jynna Kent and Natalie Monninger; mother, Madge Kent of Fort Smith, Ark.; and a brother, Joe (Judy) Kent of Roland, Okla.
He was predeceased by his father; and son, Matthew Kent.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010, in the Daystar Christian Fellowship, 1401 Blackhawk Blvd., South Beloit, with the Rev. Philip Allen officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Daley Murphy Wisch and Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Rd., Beloit, Wis. Visitation will also be from 9:30 a.m. Thursday until the time of service in the church.
Memorials may be given in his name to the Beloit Regional Hospice.
