Raymond Moss preliminary hearing reset to next week

Moss, 46, 724 Beggs Place, Harrisburg, was formally charged Oct. 15 with one count of aggravated sexual assault. He remains held at the Saline County Detention Center on $1 million bond.

Moss wants time to call witnesses of his own for the preliminary hearing, which is held to determine whether prosecutors have a good enough case to proceed to trial. The preliminary hearing is reset to 1 p.m. Nov. 18.

Moss, through his attorney, Lowell Tison, also requested blood samples from the alleged victim in order to determine whether cannabis was in her system at the time of the incident. Harrisburg police reported a strong odor of cannabis from the residence where the incident took place.

Assistant State's Attorney Eva Walker wanted that issue taken up at the next hearing because a rape kit was performed on the accuser at the Harrisburg Medical Center emergency room. A blood sample sufficient to determine whether the accuser had cannabis in her system may already be available, Walker said.

Moss also must provide blood or hair samples or a mouth swab.

Authorities contend Moss used force to place his penis in the vagina of a woman, choking her and bruising her in the process, according to court documents.
