Lawrence Gene Williams

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Lawrence Gene Williams, 80, of Shawneetown, passed away Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, at his home surrounded by his family.

Gene was born on April 27, 1930, in Mt. Vernon, Ind., to the late Lawrence and Ethel (Brown) Williams. From the age of 6, he was raised in Southern Illinois and graduated from Equality High School and went to further his education in electrical engineering. On Dec. 4, 1965, he married Connie (Milligan) Williams. Gene attended Calvary's Promise Church. He was an electrician and worked in mine construction most of his life. He was a very hard working, neat and precise person. With him has gone a vast amount of knowledge. Whether at work, home with his family or with friends, all went to Gene when they needed something fixed. He always knew how to help us. He will be greatly missed.

Gene is survived by his wife, Connie; three daughters, Connie Jean Williams of Shawneetown, Angela Davis of Moberly, Mo., and Brenda Ziegler and husband Bob; two sons, Robert "Bob" Williams and Roger "Bill" Williams both of Harrisburg; 12 grandchildren, Brian, Brad, Brook, Ryan, Mollie, Christy, Christian, Bryce, Drake, Dean, Olivia and Jack; eight great-grandchildren, Braden, Boston, Hope, Max, Addison, Jack, Kaylee and Kaden. He is also survived by two sisters, Lena Sparrow of New Haven and Mary Ann (Gary) Dillard of Shawneetown; one sister-in-law, Iris (Bruce) Gowan of Shawneetown and two brothers-in-law, Ronnie Milligan of Harrisburg and Thomas Milligan of Augusta, Ga.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Kay Wilson; a brother, Edgar Dwight Williams; and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Davis; along with his parents.

Visitation for Gene will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 1, 2010, at the Cox and Son Funeral Home in Shawneetown. Funeral for Gene will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010, at Cox and Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Buddy Hubbard officiating. Interment will follow at the Old Cottonwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family asks donations to be made to the Gallatin County Food Pantry. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
