Obituary: Sarah A. Gold

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Sarah A. Gold, 99, Cahokia, formerly of Carrier Mills, died Sunday, March 4, 2012, at the home of her sister in Cahokia, surrounded by her family.

She was born on Dec. 25, 1912, in Hammond to the late Charles Behen and Hazel Drew Behen. She was married to Paul Gold from April 5, 1940, until his death on Feb. 12, 1996.

She was a very kind, gentle, easygoing lady with a sense of humor and strong spirit who loved God and her family. She was a devoted wife and homemaker, also enjoying reading, traveling, food, gardening and attending church.

She is survived by two sisters, Vrene Ketten of Cahokia and Galen (Carl) Dillow of Tallahassee, Fla.; two nieces, Kelle Bess of Cahokia and Jane (Ray) Fischer of Columbia; two nephews, Jeff (Diane) Dillow of Millington and Rex (Carole) Hancock of Columbia; and many other nieces, nephews and loving friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, William Behen; and a niece, Carle Smith.

Visitation is 10 a.m. to service time at noon Thursday, March 8, 2012, at Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills with the Rev. Harl Cockrum officiating. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery, Carrier Mills.

The family prefers to the Vitas Hospice in lieu of flowers. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
