Shirley Naomi Wallace
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Shirley Naomi Wallace left this world to be with Jesus at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, 2010, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
Shirley was born Sept. 22, 1935, to Claude and Theresa (Curtis) Heflin. She married Bob Wallace in Galatia on July 5, 1952. Shirley and Bob moved to northern Indiana to start their life in August 1952, where they were blessed with their first child, Sherry (the Queen). Bob worked for Inland Steel. After a major accident, Bob was not able to work for two years. Shirley took a job at Inland Steel to continue to provide for their family. Shirley also worked for Continental Assurance in Chicago for about four years, drove a bus for the Calumet Bus Service for nine years, drove a bus for Galatia School District for 20 years and still had enough time to have three more children.
Shirley drove a school bus for 29 years. She was proud of her driving record, never having an accident. Shirley belonged to the Galatia Cumberland Presbyterian Church for 34 years. Shirley and Bob enjoyed each other's company outside while mowing the yard together. She enjoyed making quilts and crocheting. She made many quilts and blankets for people. When she was young, she enjoyed boating, water-skiing and dancing.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Bob Wallace, of 58 years; two sons, Roger (Debbie) Wallace of Galatia and Rod (Amy) Wallace of Harrisburg; two daughters, Sherry (Ken) DeRolf of Pendleton, Ind., and Beth (Harvey) Patterson of Pendleton, Ind.; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joann Shelton of Thompsonville and Brenda Bartley of Galatia; and two brothers, Calvin (Linda) Heflin of Peotone and Charles (Shirley) Heflin of Galatia.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Wesley Heflin, Fred Heflin and Hardrock Heflin; one sister, Ruth Flowers; and one granddaughter, Bobbi Jo Wallace.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 27, 2010. Service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2010. Both will be held at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia. The Rev. John Hawkins will be officiating. Burial will be at Webber Campground Cemetery, Galatia.
