Chester High School Sweetheart Dance was a blast from the past
<span>CHESTER -- The Chester High School Sweetheart Dance was held Feb. 13 at Chester High School's Juergen's Gymnasium.</span>
<span>The theme for the evening was "'50s Grease" and attendees had the option of dressing in 50's attire.</span>
<span>The gym was decorated in 1950s motif and music was provided by a '50s style jukebox.</span>
<span>Refreshments were served at no cost to the participants and everyone appeared to have a great time dancing, visiting and enjoying the company of others in attendance.</span>
<span>The coronation began at 9 p.m. with sophomore Co-Class Sponsor Mike Springston giving a warm welcome to the crowd. Springston then introduced the Sweetheart Court as they entered the gym for the coronation.</span>
<span>The king and queen runners-up were announced as Robbie Lindner and Rachel Clendenin, respectively. As runner-up, Clendenin was named Maid of Honor.</span>
<span> The CHS Sweetheart King was Zhan Gao, while the Sweetheart Queen was Mikayla Atchison. All candidates were nominated from the senior class of 2015.</span>
<span>Retiring Queen Rachel Berner was on hand to crown the queen and welcome the Maid of Honor.</span>
<span>Retiring King Trey Barthol was unable to attend the event, so Hunter Cushman, last year's king runner-up, handled the duties of crowning the Sweetheart King and welcoming the King Runner-Up.</span>
<span>The entire event was hosted by the CHS Sophomore Class of 2017. Class sponsors Laverne Misselhorn and Springston organized the class in decorating for the affair and choosing the theme and decorations.</span>
