Judy Carter Johnson
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Jewell "Judy" Evelyn Baker Carter Johnson passed from this life on Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at St. Mary's Hospital, Evansville, Ind. She courageously fought cancer for a year.
Jewell was born June 28, 1921, in Raleigh to John Carlin and Mattie Watson Baker. She was married to Stanley G. Carter and Dr. Wm. Johnson, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by a son, Otis A. Carter and Elizabeth from Evansville, Ind.; a daughter, Sandra Carter Bramlet and Richard from Fraser, Colo.; granddaughters, Amanda Carter Balser, Emily Carter Millsap, Samantha Carter Miller and Amy Bramlet Beasley; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Laura Burghard; and several loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Randel, James Von L. and John E. Baker; three sisters, Lillian Moore, Vivian Ferrell and Phoebe Elizabeth Baker; and one granddaughter, Shella Bramlet Fowler.
Jewell embraced life with energy, enthusiasm, humor and grace well into her eighties. She loved to garden, quilt, do needlework and travel. Family meant everything to her. She was a great cook, hosting all family holiday dinners. She was famous for pies -- her rhubarb pie was much coveted at Eldorado fundraisers. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She will be missed by everyone who loved her.
For those who desire, contributions in her memory can be made to the American Red Cross, where she volunteered for many years, or the American Cancer Society.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010, at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado with the Rev. Walter Baker officiating. Burial will be in Lindale Cemetery. Visitation is 1 p.m. to service time Saturday at the funeral home.
