Mack G. Pulliam

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Mack G. Pulliam, 76, of Carrier Mills and Stonefort, went to be with the Lord from the Harrisburg hospital on Thursday, Aug. 12, 2010, as the loud blast of thunder marked the time of 1:02 p.m.

He was born near Hamburg to Madeline Pulliam on Feb. 18, 1934. He attended school in Galatia. On May 15, 1954, he married Merriel Dene Patton and in August of that year he enlisted in the U.S. Army. After basic training, he was deployed to Babenhausen, Germany. He returned home in 1956 to begin his lifelong passion of farming.

Mack served 36 years (retiring in 2004) on the Saline County Farm Bureau Board. He held the office of secretary, then served as president for 13 years. He served on the Twin County Service Company (now Southern FS Inc.) board of directors for 16 years. He judged the county fair 4-H woodworking projects for many years.

Along with farming in 1986, his woodworking hobby turned into a business -- The Country Carousel in Carrier Mills -- and continued until 1995. He retired from farming in 1996 due to health issues. He enjoyed camping (winter months in Florida) and spending time with family and friends.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Carrier Mills and over the years served in many ways.

In addition to his loving wife, Dene, those left to cherish his memory include two daughters, Maurita Barger of Carrier Mills and Debbie Clore (friend John) of Stonefort; grandchildren, Dana (Scott) Dooley of Carrier Mills, Leslie Barger of Clarksville, Tenn., Nathan Barger (friend Tasha) and Noel Clore of Carrier Mills; an uncle, W.B. Pulliam of Galatia; cousin, Priscilla (Curtis) Barnes and their son, Timothy Barnes of Galatia; and sister-in-law, Faye (Patton) Willie and her family of Kirksey, Ky.

Deceased are his mother, Madeline Pulliam; grandparents, Walter B. and Maud Pulliam; aunts, Fern Pulliam, Lela Pulliam, Nora Hammick and Roxie Lewis; mother- and father-in-law, Fred and Clara Patton; son-in-law, Gerald Barger; and brother-in-law, Edward Willie.

Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 15, 2010, at Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills with the Rev. Scott Johnson and the Rev. Harl Cockrum officiating. Burial was in Salem Cemetery in Carrier Mills with military honors. Visitation was 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010.

In lieu of flowers, the preferred choice of remembrance is memorials to the First Baptist Church Building Fund or to the Saline County 4-H. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
