Prep Hoops: Gallatin Co. comeback falls short
The comeback wasn't in the cards for Gallatin County High School as a late rally fell short in a 48-46 loss to Hamilton County Saturday night at the Rich Herrin Classic at Benton High School.
Hamilton County took a 14-10 lead and led 26-17 at the break. The Hawks fought back outscoring Hamilton County 10-5 in the third quarter and kept the pressure on by tying the game at 42-all with 2:50 left in the fourth quarter when Patrick Clark drilled a 3-pointer.
Oakley Dial quickly gave the Foxes the lead back as the sophomore guard hit a jumper for the 42-40 advantage.
On the other end, Seth Ramsey made one of two free throws for Gallatin County and the Hawks came up with the turnover on the ensuing possession, but couldn't convert on the other end.
From there, Hamilton County went six-for-six from the foul stripe and Gallatin County couldn't get any closer.
Ramsey led all scorers with 24 points, while Chandler Scates added eight points. Tyler Oldham and Clark each finished with five points, while Hank Oldham and Brody Watts each finished with two points.
Fairfield 82, Eldorado 47
FAIRFIELD - Andrew Gifford and Nathaniel Lackey combined for 58 of Fairfield's 82 points in a 82-47 win over Eldorado Friday night.
Fairfield took control from the start, racing out to a 24-5 first quarter lead and outscoring Eldorado 26-13 in the second quarter to lead 50-18 at the break.
Nathan Burnett and Adam Partridge paced the Eagles in scoring as Burnett had a team-high 13 points, while Partridge pitched in with 12.
Clay Boulds added eight points for Eldorado, while Adam Ninness finished with five points. Ethan Partridge finished with four points, while Max Kaiser and Jacob Traxler each had two points.
Carrier Mills 71, Galatia 45
GALATIA - Darrent Betz and Loren Whiting each led Carrier Mills-Stonefort in scoring as the Wildcats routed Galatia 71-45 Friday night.
Betz scored a game-high 24 points, while Whiting tossed in 21 and Slayden Figg finished with 12 as all ended in double figures.
Jonah Crowder chipped in with seven, while Anthony Kalodner finished with five and Justice Hill tacked on two.
Galatia was led by Kody Matthews' 15 points, while Sean Mondino tacked on 10 to finish in double figures.
Austin Stricklin netted nine points for the Bearcats, while Luke Lawrence finished with four points. Hayden Mitchell, John Amberger and Austin Stevens all had two points, while Ben Mitchell tossed in a free throw.
