Mary Martelea Baker

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Mary Martelea Baker, 94, of Evansville, Ind., passed away Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at St. Mary&#39;s Medical Center. She was born Sept. 10, 1915, in Harrisburg to Grace and Hal Wilson.

Mary was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She loved children and was active in substitute teaching while her son was in school. She enjoyed reading, working puzzles and crosswords. Mary was an award-winning classical pianist, specializing in Bach and Beethoven. Mary graduated summa cum laude from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, majoring in education and language. She had taught in Elgin, teaching French in a private school.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Courtney Wayne Baker.

Mary is survived by her son, Michael C. Baker of Newburgh, Ind.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, June 18, 2010, at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Ferd Elfreich. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Sunset Lawn Cemetery in Harrisburg. Friends may visit from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 17, 2010, at the funeral home.
