OBITUARY: Edward D. Prout
Edward D. Prout, 83, Mount Vernon, formerly of Opdyke, died 1:07 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, 2015, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mount Vernon.
He was born Monday, Oct. 5, 1931, in Harrisburg to Louise Priest. He married Helen Virginia Dykes on June 15, 1985, at Lake San Marcos, Calif.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2015, at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon with the Rev. Dennis Myers officiating. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, 2015, at Hughey Funeral Home. Graveside Committal Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2015, at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Harrisburg. Full Military Honors will be conducted at the cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Prout of Opdyke; two daughters, Carol Hale and husband Tom of Cedar City, Utah, and Sue Coombs and husband Phil of Ventura, Calif.; a stepson, Dale Forth of Southgate, Mich.; three grandchildren, Jason Majer of Temecula, Calif., Jacob Coombs of Ventura, Calif., and Cati Jenkins of Ventura, Calif.; three great-grandchildren, Kaleb Majer, Payton Coombs and Madelyn Jenkins.
His parents preceded him in death.
Edward was a career serviceman; a U.S. Navy Corpsman attached to the U.S. Marines. He served a total of 20 years, two of which were in Vietnam. Following his military retirement, he worked for 13 years in sales at Environmental Sales for Applied Research & Development Laboratory (ARDL) in Mount Vernon and he loved golfing, boating and camping.
