</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Donald N. Thompson, 68, of 16391 Old Creal Springs Road, Marion, formerly of Equality, passed away surrounded by his family at 12:10 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010, in Marion.
He was born on Feb. 11, 1941, in Equality, the son of Lyle Edward and Mattie Sue (Dailey) Thompson Sr. Don married Judith A. Carnahan on Aug. 14, 1960.
He retired in 1991 from the Illinois State Police District No. 4 and was also a carpenter by trade. Don and his wife Judy moved from Lansing to Marion in 1994. He was a member of the Equality Presbyterian Church and was a 32nd degree Mason member of the Equality Masonic Lodge No. 2.
Don is survived by his loving wife, Judy Thompson of Marion; two daughters, Donna M. and Bob Jones of Lansing and Jennifer A. and Bob Klein of Bartlett; three brothers, Monte C. and Mary Thompson of Ridgway, Harold D. and Marlene Thompson of Fountain, Colo., and Ted E. and Margit Thompson of Elk Grove Village; four grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn Jones, Benjamin Donald Jones, Mattie Michelle Klein and Makayla Marie Klein; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, LaVernne Murphy and Evelyn Adams; and two brothers, Lyle E. and Ronald L. Thompson.
Visitation for Don will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Equality with Masonic service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be the following day, 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010, at the Equality Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jerry Williams officiating. Burial will be at the Cottage Grove Cemetery near Equality. In lieu of flowers donations in Don's memory may be made to the St. Jude Children's Hospital, Shriners Hospital or Caringbridge.org website.
