Obituary: Mabel Cotter

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Mabel Cotter, 78, of Thompsonville, passed away at 2:10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011, at her residence.

She was born on Dec. 29 1932, in Eldorado to the late Clifford and Ethel (Marcum) Jones. She married Lloyd L. "Greasy" Cotter on Feb. 14, 1948, and he preceded her in death Feb. 14, 1998. Mabel worked at Olin Mills and later as a certified nursing assistant at Good Shepherd Nursing Home and Home Health Care. She attended Tate's Chapel United Methodist Church and dearly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mabel enjoyed traveling, fishing and gardening.

Surviving family members include her four children, Brenda Borgsmiller and husband Jim of Herrin, Linda Decker and husband Ken of Springfield, John Cotter and wife Mona of Thompsonville and Don Cotter and wife Donna of Thompsonville; four grandchildren, John, Val Stout and husband Ronnie, Lesa Rankin and husband Jim and Clint Cotter and wife Candice; seven great-grandchildren, Josh, Olivia, Cassi, Grant, Aubrey, John and Jolie. Several nieces and nephews survive and a special friend, Jake.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Lucille Stuby; brother, Norman Jones; sister, Ellen Forbus; brother, Donald Jones; and brother, Charles Jones.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011, at Reed Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Paul Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Lebanon Cemetery northwest of Galatia. Visitation will be 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday at Reed Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois Blue East Team. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
