Verba L. Hancock

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Verba L. Hancock, 90, Carrier Mills, died 12:50 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010, at Carrier Mills Nursing Home.

She was born April 26, 1919, in Saline County to Hugh and Lucy (Hamilton) McDonald. On April 15, 1938, she married Harold Hancock, who preceded her in death on July 18, 1987.

She was a retired seamstress at Smolers Manufacturing in Herrin. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Carrier Mills.

She is survived by a son, Tom and Janice Hancock of Stonefort; two grandchildren, Brad and Lisa Hancock of Stonefort and Julie and Todd Walker of Columbia, Mo.; and four great-grandchildren, Taylor and Jake Walker, Matt Fowler and Erin Fowler.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Visitation is 9 a.m. to service time 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, at Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills with the Rev. Scott Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery.

The family asks that flowers be omitted and memorials made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
