OBITUARY: Lawrence 'Doc' Schutt
Lawrence "Doc" Schutt, 77, 414 N. Thompson St., Carrier Mills, died 12:09 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, 2015, at Herrin Hospital.
At his request, cremation has been accorded. Private family graveside services will be held at a later date. There will be no visitation. Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills has been entrusted with the arrangements.
He was born in Hickstown, (Hardin County) Illinois on Nov. 7, 1937, to the late Clyde and Molly (Baldwin) Schutt.
He was a retired coal miner. He loved all sports and was superb at the art of barbecuing. Doc made and bottled his own barbecue sauce for many years before passing it down to his grandson.
He was also a member of the Carrier Mills Sons of the American Legion.
He is survived by three children: Lonnie (Nita) Schutt of Harrisburg, Tony (Amy) Schutt of Carrier Mills, Chris (Tony) Pickering of Carrier Mills; five grandchildren: Tayler Owens of Creal Springs, Paige Schutt, Kane Schutt, Brianna Pickering and Abbie Pickering, all of Carrier Mills; two great-grandchildren: Andelyn Owens and Cooper Owens, both of Creal Springs; three brothers: J.C. Schutt of Hickstown, A.D. Schutt of Benton and Bob Schutt of Rosiclare; and sister: Ruby Crabb of Harrisburg.
He was preceded in death by two sisters: Mary Vinyard and Faye Harrison; and brother: John Schutt.
