GOLF: Pavloff picks up third win of the summer

On Monday, Kolton Pavloff [Du Quoin] picked up his third junior golf tournament victory of the summer by winning the Fowler -Bonan "Clothes For Kids" Junior Classic.

Pavloff finished with a score of 73, one shot better than Ben Fowler [Harrisburg]. "My play was solid today," Pavloff said. "I was consistent off the tee and that usually results in a good score. I'm striking the ball well right now."

Pavloff started with a bogey on the first hole but quickly got things on track by making par on the next 4 holes. A bogey on number six followed by three more pars gave him a front nine score of 37. "My drive on the ninth hole was just off the green and pin high. I didn't capitalize on a great drive when I missed the birdie putt"

Birdies on holes ten and eighteen gave Pavloff a round of even par on the back nine and a final score of 73. "I missed a great opportunity to make eagle on the last hole. It was playing about 275 yards and I knew a driver would be too much club. I hit a 3 wood onto the green and was about 25 feet from the hole. I really wanted to make that putt, but it slipped past the edge. I'm not going to complain. Tap-in birdies are always nice."

The summer season wraps up for Pavloff with a busy weekend ahead. On Friday, he will play in the Benton Junior Gold Cup. That will be followed by the Bill Koeneman Memorial Players Cup Championship on Saturday at Hickory Ridge in Carbondale, IL. On Monday, the SIGA Junior Golf Tour Players Championship will be held at Rend Lake Golf Course in Ina, IL to cap off the season.

"Three wins is the most I have gotten during the summer season. I won three back in 2012 also. I won the Benton Junior Gold Cup in 2012 and finished second last year. I like my chances on Friday. It sure would be nice to pick up that fourth win."
