Earl P. Mings
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Earl P. Mings, 88, rural Raleigh, died Sunday evening, Nov. 15, 2009 at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado.
He was born September 2, 1921 to Robert Alvis and Dora (Pulliam) Mings. He married Jane R Cannon, and she preceded him in death on Oct. 2, 1983.
Earl was a lifelong Democrat and had served as Long Branch Township precinct committeeman for nearly 60 years. He was elected to the Saline County Board in 1970 in the first at-large election and served continuously for 29 years. He was also Long Branch Township supervisor for a number of years.
He was a farmer and an auctioneer.
In addition to his parents and wife, Earl was preceded in death by a son, Earl P. Mings Jr; three sisters, Mary Oglesby, Frances Miller and Blanche Mings; and two brothers, William and Robert.
Surviving him are two brothers, James Everett and Grant; many nieces and nephews, great- and great-great nieces and nephews; as well as a host of friends, including a special friend, Kay Sloan.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21 at Long Branch Baptist Church, where he was a member with Gary Mings and Rev John Gilmore officiating. Interment will be in Raleigh Masonic Cemetery beside his beloved wife and son.
Visitation will be held 3 to 8 pm. Friday, Nov. 20, 2009 at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home, Eldorado and from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Long Branch Baptist Church, 2610 Hamburg Road, Galatia.
