Melvin Timothy Davis Jr.

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Melvin Timothy Davis Jr., 69, of Carrier Mills, passed away at 11:33 a.m. Monday, March 16, 2009, at Harrisburg Medical Center.

Melvin was born on Thursday, March 16, 1939, in Abilene, Texas, to the late Melvin Timothy Davis Sr., and Mary Pauline (Knope) Davis. He married Dorothy Mae Annas and she preceded him in death in 1977. He later married Nancy Dunn.

Melvin was a retired GTE repairman. He was Baptist by faith and a Navy veteran. He was a former member of the American Legion Post of Carrier Mills.

Survivors include children, Robin Newcomb and husband Burt of Carrier Mills, Brian Davis and wife Karen of Carrier Mills, Marnia Hunt and husband Russell of Carrier Mills, Michelle Nolen and husband Britt of Carrier Mills, Marsha Cockran and husband Scott of Herrin and Charlie Joyner and wife Jerilynn of Eddyville; 17 grandchildren, Hallie and Evie Newcomb of Carrier Mills, B.J., Dylan and Ethan Davis of Carrier Mills, Benjie, Melissa, Kristin, Karissa, Evan and Marriah Hunt of Carrier Mills, Brittian, Brea and Clayton Nolen of Carrier Mills, Tenika Horton of Herrin, Tad Cockran of Herrin and Brenna Joyner of Eddyville; one great-grandchild, Dustin Hunt of Carrier Mills; several nieces and nephews and several neighborhood kids.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy; and one sister, Carolyn Thomas.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 21, 2009, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. The Rev. Ownly Williams will officiate. Carrier Mills American Legion will be conducting military rites at the funeral home after the service. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, March 21, 2009, at Reed Funeral Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Carrier Mills American Legion. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
