OBITUARY: Virginia June “Sissy” Webb Pankey

Virginia June "Sissy" Webb Pankey, age 85 of Harrisburg, passed away at her home surrounded by her family 8:16 p.m. July 6, 2014.

She was born on June 18, 1929, at Tunnel Hill, to the late Mack and Icy Webb. On Jan. 22, 1955, she married Richard Lavender Pankey and he preceded her in death on Jan. 26, 2000.

She was a former school bus driver for the McCormack's, limousine driver for Sam and Virginia Barter and housekeeper for several homes in Harrisburg. She was a charter member and officer for the Raleigh Historical Society and member of Raleigh Baptist Church.

Virginia is survived by two sons, Mike Gore of Carrier Mills, Tom and Marilyn Gore; and daughter, Patty and John Holmes of Harrisburg. She leaves five grandchildren, Tracy Adams, Richard and Kacy Gore, Shelly and Gary Boots, John Patrick Holmes, all of Harrisburg, and Jason and Tracy Gore of St. John's, Ind.; six great-grandchildren, Cody Gore, Taylor Boots, Cole Adams, Delaney Adams, Evan Adams, Olivia Gore, Caleb Gore; and special nephew, Ken Osborn and wife Libby of South Carolina.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was proceeded in death by a son, David Joe; two sisters, Vivian Osborn and Mary Nosse; and two brothers, Robert Webb and Joe Webb.

At her request she will be cremated and a private ceremony will be held at the Raleigh Masonic Cemetery in Raleigh. Reed Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
