Charles 'Charlie' R. Neal
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Charles "Charlie" R. Neal, 77, of 910 Feazel Road, Harrisburg, died 10:10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009, at his residence.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009, at Gaskins-Jones Funeral Home in Harrisburg with the Rev. Loy Barger officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Lawn Cemetery with military honors provided by the Carrier Mills and Harrisburg VFW, American Legion and an honor detail from Fort Leonard Wood. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009, at the funeral home.
He was born April 28, 1931, in Sunny Brook, Ky., to Osco and Ruth (Albertson) Neal. On Nov. 1955, he married Bonnie Jean Dunn, who preceded him in death on Sept. 12, 2002.
He was a U.S. veteran, having served in Korea. He was a retired truck driver, a member of Sloan Street General Baptist Church, Teamsters Local 347 and the American Legion.
He is survived by a daughter, Kathy Neal of Harrisburg; a son, Brad (Mary Anne) Neal of Harrisburg; a granddaughter, Heather Brianna Neal of Harrisburg; three brothers, Bob (Pat) Neal of Watseka, Dennis (Beverly) Neal of Rossville and John (Joan) Neal of Portland, Ore.; a sister, Dean Hartman of Frankfurt; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Betty (Earl) Drollinger; a brother, Ralph Neal; two brothers-in-law, Dick Hartman and Glendel E. Dunn; and father- and mother-in-law, Bradford and Julia Mae Fleming Dunn.
At the family's request, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
