Days set aside for hunters to test shotguns

The state police will open gun ranges to hunters next week for sighting in and test-firing their shotguns in a safe environment, officials say.

The ranges are open so hunters can check their guns with experts on hand before the season. This, officials say, will ensure their safety and the safety of other sportsmen.

The ranges will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 10. Hunters should call 815-239-1152, ext. 2427, to make a reservation with trooper Tim Roush.

Troopers also are opening their ranges in Elgin, Joliet, Pawnee, Effingham, DuQuoin and LaSalle.
